HURRICANE PREP

Hurricane Roof Preparation in Tampa Bay, Florida

Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30. The best time to prepare a roof for hurricane wind is May. Pre-season inspections catch weak points (lifted shingles, failing flashings, loose tiles) while they are cheap to fix.

What Our Hurricane Roof Preparation Service Includes

1

Pre-Season Inspections

Full roof walk in April or May. Document every weak point. Quote any preventive repairs. Most homeowners do this annually.

2

Wind Uplift Assessment

Inspect shingle adhesion, ridge cap fastening, edge metal, and high-wind vulnerable details. Find what would fail first in a Cat 2 or Cat 3.

3

Flashing and Penetration Repair

Reseal or replace flashings around chimneys, vents, skylights, and roof-to-wall transitions before they become storm leak sources.

4

Loose Shingle Reinforcement

Older roofs sometimes have shingles that have lost their factory adhesion. We can hand-seal each shingle individually for additional wind resistance.

5

Tile Roof Storm Prep

Inspect for cracked or slipped tiles, fastener corrosion, and underlayment exposure. Tile roofs do great in hurricanes when maintained.

6

Documentation for Insurance

Pre-storm photo documentation establishes the condition of your roof before any damage. Critical for storm damage claims later.

Hurricane Roof Preparation FAQs

When should I get a hurricane roof inspection? +
April or May is ideal. Hurricane season starts June 1, but Atlantic activity typically peaks August through October. Pre-season inspection lets you schedule any necessary repairs before storms arrive.
How much does a pre-hurricane inspection cost? +
Most pre-season residential inspections run $200 to $400 depending on size. We waive the inspection fee if you have us complete any recommended repairs.
What if my roof has weak spots before hurricane season? +
Repair them now. Lifted shingles, failing flashings, and loose tiles cost a few hundred dollars to fix in May and tens of thousands in damage if they fail in a September hurricane.
Will my insurance require a hurricane inspection? +
Some Florida carriers require periodic roof inspections especially for older homes. Most accept our written inspection reports for their underwriting requirements.
How do I know if my roof can handle a hurricane? +
Inspection is the only way to know. Visible signs (curled shingles, missing tiles, sagging sections) tell you the roof has problems. Absence of visible problems does not mean the roof is hurricane ready. Have it inspected.
What is the most common hurricane roof damage? +
Wind uplift on shingles (shingles peeling off in sequence), failed flashings letting water in around chimneys and vents, and tree impact damage. Pre-season inspection addresses the first two; the third is mostly tree management.
